Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending corner before the final corner on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
