The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
